Prof. Steve Wheeler - Visit To CEIT & UQ
Public Lecture in the CEIT Emerging Technology & Learning Seminar Series: Harnessing The Power Of Social Media In Education.
A rapid emergence of social media – the so called ‘Web 2.0’ – has opened up new opportunities for participatory learning in all sectors of education. In the light of these developments Prof. Wheeler will explore new teacher roles, examine new learner expectations and explore some of the new learning territories that are emerging beyond the walls of the institution. Prof. Wheeler is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in the Faculty of Education at the University of Plymouth. He chairs the Plymouth e-Learning Conference, convenes the University's e-learning research network and co-ordinates technology mediated learning for the Faculty of Education. Prof. Wheeler serves on the editorial boards of ten international journals, including ALT-J, Digital Culture and Education, and IRRODL and is co-editor of Interactive Learning Environments. He chairs the UNESCO funded IFIP WG 3.6 (Distance Education) serves as a Fellow of the European Distance and E-learning Network (EDEN). The lecture will be held in conjunction with the World Computing Congress, at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, September 22nd, in the AIBN Seminar Room level 1, Bldg 75 Room 132, at the St. Lucia campus. Bio: I'm an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) in the Faculty of Education at the University of Plymouth. I serve on the editorial boards of ten international journals, including ALT-J, Digital Culture and Education, and IRRODL and I am co-editor of Interactive Learning Environments. I'm also the chair of the UNESCO funded IFIP WG 3.6 (Distance Education) and a Fellow of the European Distance and E-learning Network (EDEN). My research interests include e-learning, distance education, creativity and Web 2.0 social software.
